Testing, testing 1 2 3
Gabriela Catalina's life of testing began on Saturday, where I had to take her to the Upper, UPPER Eastside to be tested for school for next year. There's this ridiculous process of applying, even to public school, because there just aren't enough spaces.
So we get out of the cab because the street we are looking for doesn't exist- aka, a building, which I presume is the school, is in its stead. I am walking with my two small children; I chose not to go with the stroller that day. I'm realizing this can't be the school. Let's be honest, I've lived in NYC for over three years- what looks like a run down beat up building on the outside could actually hold some place marvelous on the inside, so I really don't think about it any more.
I ask a woman if she could please tell me where PS 102 is (they don't have cute names for public schools here as there are so many, so its just "PS" and then whatever number). She says,
"You see these projects right here?"
"Um, yes?" oh crap! See! Sometimes it IS good to judge from the outside!!
"Yeah. You just walk right through the middle of these projects here, go on through to the other side, and its that building waaaaay over there with the flag on top. Good luck!"
I was really hoping the "good luck" was for whatever we were doing at the school, not like "good luck don't die."
