Entitlement

I was standing on the corner with some friends Saturday night, having just enjoyed the circus with my family and friends when I overheard the most disturbing phone conversation of my entire life… when EVERYONE overheard a phone conversation…

The conversation I heard on one side of the telephone … “that’s what she is.  Just another entitled white woman….uh huh… yup, white bitch….with all your money and your nanny…and what the hell do you have a full time nanny and not be working for???  No wonder she killed your two kids…. Uh huh… let that be a lesson to aaaall you white entitled women… learn to watch your own kids… otherwise you get what you deserve.”

To the 40something year old, hate filled male standing on the street corner outside Applebee’s at 8:30 last night on the UWS… you are not a man.  You are a disgrace and a pitiful excuse for a human being.  No one “deserves” to lose a child, especially in the way this family did.  No one.  Not if you are white, black, Asian, Mexican, or any other anything.  Not if you are a trust fund baby, on welfare, a felon, a rabbi, not if you live in a wooden shack in Peru or in a 80 million dollar penthouse in NYC.  Not if you are old or young, married or unmarried…

When is this going to end?  This judgement that someone else is less a human being than you?  That you can say a mother deserved to have her children murdered because she and her husband worked hard and sacrificed and make more money than you?  If you are that jealous- GET A JOB.  Or, on the flip side, that another person could say a mother deserved to lose her child to drugs because she is on welfare receiving aid from the government?  If you don’t like it, HELP HER OUT.  This sick perverse sense of righteousness has got to stop.  A mother…a father…lost their children… in a horrific way.  Have enough human decency to show some respect.  To the man last night whose spiteful words will haunt me for the rest of my life, you would do well to show up in church, or any other place of worship for that matter, and learn what love and forgiveness is and being a friend it.

To the Krim’s….there are no words… I’m so very sorry for your loss.  May God be with you at this time.
